The Danish Centre for AI Innovation A/S (DCAI) is pleased to welcome Sune Aggergaard Mortensen as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). In this role, Mortensen will oversee the development and implementation of robust cybersecurity and compliance frameworks to ensure the security, resilience, and trustworthiness of the cutting-edge Gefion AI supercomputer infrastructure.
The Danish Centre for AI Innovation A/S (DCAI) is growing as it positions itself as a leading hub and trusted partner for transformative AI innovation. With an expanding workload fueled by cutting-edge projects and expanding opportunities, DCAI is pleased to welcome Sune Aggergaard Mortensen as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). Mortensen’s appointment will strengthen DCAI’s ability to meet the increasing demands while ensuring robust security and compliance for its state-of-the-art Gefion AI supercomputer infrastructure.
At DCAI, Mortensen will lead a team of security and compliance experts focused on safeguarding Gefion’s infrastructure and data ecosystem. This includes ensuring the secure processing of sensitive information, meeting the compliance demands of diverse users, and balancing stringent technical security measures with the operational needs of researchers, industry partners, and innovators.
Mortensen brings over 25 years of experience in technology, with the past 12 years dedicated to leading cybersecurity and compliance efforts for critical infrastructure organisations and highly regulated industries. His expertise spans regulatory collaboration, the management of complex security frameworks, and the establishment of governance structures that protect vital assets while enabling operational resilience.
“As a CISO, I have spent over a decade working with critical infrastructure and regulated industries, understanding the delicate balance between operational needs and stringent technical security requirements. Joining this new chapter, I am eager to apply my expertise in collaboration with innovative teams and key stakeholders. Together, we can build secure, resilient systems around Gefion that not only protect vital assets but also enable growth and innovation for all the users of Gefion,” Mortensen reflects on his new position.
Nadia Carlsten, CEO of DCAI, emphasises the importance of DCAI’s new hire: “Prioritising security and compliance is critical for us as we push the boundaries of AI. Sune’s deep experience in cybersecurity for critical infrastructure and his ability to navigate complex regulatory environments make him a great hire in this role. As we expand Gefion’s capabilities and its impact across sectors, Sune’s expertise will be instrumental in ensuring our users’ data and projects are handled with the highest standards of security and compliance,” she says.
The Gefion AI supercomputer, launched on October 23rd in Copenhagen with notable attendees such as HM King Frederik X of Denmark and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, represents a new era of AI-driven innovation.
Recently, Gefion achieved a remarkable milestone by being ranked #21 globally on the prestigious TOP500 list of the world's most powerful supercomputers. This recognition, coming just three weeks after its inauguration, confirms Gefion’s status as one of Europe’s most advanced AI computing machines and highlights its potential to transform AI research and development.
As Gefion enters a pilot phase, serving researchers and organisations tackling global challenges like green energy transitions, quantum computing, and advanced healthcare, Mortensen’s appointment underscores DCAI’s dedication to delivering a secure, resilient, and trustworthy AI infrastructure that its collaborators and stakeholders can depend on.
